Job Programs
Job training programs to build a stronger Victorian workforce
While there is no doubt we're an employer of choice, we don't leave anything to chance when it comes to attracting and retaining the best people now and in the future. That's why we have a range of innovative job training programs.
To counter Australia's ageing workforce, we have the VPS Graduate Recruitment Scheme. To give young Victorians a ‘running start' at their career, we provide the Youth Employment Scheme. For Indigenous Australians and Torres Strait Islanders, we have the Wur-cum-barra strategy. We're also proud to provide a growing level of disability assistance.
VPS Graduate Recruitment and Development Scheme (GRADS)
The Graduate Recruitment and Development Scheme (GRADS) ensures our future capability by offering a number of job placements to the best university graduates each year. The VPS Graduate Recruitment and Development Scheme:
- attracts, develops and retains graduates with potential for future management, policy or leadership roles
- introduces graduates to various management styles and types of work through short-term placements in different departments over a year
- gives graduates an accelerated learning and job training program to help them gain skills relevant to public administration.
Details of the intake are published on our careers website, in the press and in university and careers expos and fairs. We usually invite online applications in March via the graduates website.
Some public sector agencies conduct their own graduate intakes in specific disciplines. For example, the Departments of Primary Industries (DPI) and Sustainability and Environment (DSE) work together to target science graduates and offer job training programs specific to those skills. Such intakes are usually advertised in the media, through universities and on agency websites.
You don’t need to wait for our annual intake to work with us. Just visit our jobs board or apply for vacancies on our careers website.
