The interview is one of the last steps in getting the job you want.
Being prepared for an interview helps you leave a good impression on the interview panel. It will help build your confidence and show that you're serious about the role.
Before your interview, make sure you:
Let the hiring manager know if you need any adjustments to particpate in the interview.
Examples of workplace adjustments you could ask for are:
Dress in simple and professional clothes for your interview. For example, you could wear a neat shirt or blouse, tailored pants or skirt and closed-toe shoes.
Avoid loud colors, overly casual clothing or strong fragrances.
Try on your outfit before the interview to make sure it's appropriate for the position and is comfortable.
Arrive or be ready to start your interview 10 to 15 minutes early. If your interview is online, make sure your internet is working and you know how to join the interview.
Stay calm and confident. Take a deep breath and listen carefully to each question. It's okay to pause and think before answering. You can also ask the interview panel to repeat the question or explain anything you don't understand.
You can use the STAR method to answer questions. Share examples that show how you meet the key selection criteria.
Try to ask one or 2 meaningful questions about the role and the organisation.
Reflect on the interview and think about what went well and what you could have improved.
If appropriate, you can send a short thank-you email to the panel.
If you're not the successful candidate, you can politely ask for feedback.
