The career services portal is set up to help you find and make the most of job opportunities with the Victorian Government. You may even find that your skills and experience are suited to a role or sector you had not previously considered, because there are more than 200 occupations in the Victorian Government.
To apply for jobs online, and use the following career services, either login here (if you have an existing user account) or register as a new user:
- Job emails – this service allows you to register search criteria that meet your specific job requirements. Our system will send you an email when job opportunities that suit your criteria become available.
- My profile – upload your résumé onto our database. By providing us with your profile or résumé we can match your skills and experience with jobs that we are recruiting for.
- My applications – your online applications are stored in your career services account. This will help you keep track of your past and present online applications.
- Update account – keep your account details current and up-to-date, particularly your email address so we can contact you about job opportunities and other information.
How job opportunities are structured in the VPS
In the Victorian Public Service (VPS), jobs are organised according to classifications that reflect the value of the work performed. These are coded and described for reference purposes, and classifications are given salary ranges. The job or position description normally shows the salary range. Depending on the appointment, entry level job opportunities normally start at the minimum of the range.
Some of the classifications include a wide variety of occupations. For example, in the VPSG 1-6 grades you will find administrative roles such as in accounting or finance, economics and project management. You will also find legal, engineering, scientific and community corrections jobs.
In general, where the VPS classification has numbers after the code, this shows a classification structure. The number ‘1’ is usually the lowest level in the classification, except for executives where 1 is the highest.
