Volunteering

Volunteers of all ages can work in the Victorian public sector and government supported organisations to gain skills and serve communities.

When you volunteer, you not only gain skills and knowledge, you give back to the community.

Opportunities are available in areas such as emergency services, education, social justice, environment, heritage and culture, and sport and recreation. Time commitments vary too. You can either volunteer full-time, part-time, occasional, or just the one-off.

  • Volunteer at Department of Justice and Community Safety 

    DJCS provides volunteering opportunities in Victoria's court, legal and prison systems. Volunteers can help provide information and emotional support to people during the court process, or visit people with disability or mental illness at a state facility. For more information, visit the Justice website. 

     

  • Country Fire Authority (CFA)

    CFA is a volunteer based organisation with opportunities in fire and emergency services across Victoria. As a trained CFA volunteer, you could be fighting  fires and attending to incidents. These could include road accidents, industrial rescues, flood relief and chemical spills. For more information, visit the CFA website. 

     

  • Victoria State Emergency Services (SES)

    SES is a volunteer based organisation with opportunities to help Victorians across the state with road rescue, and flood and storm support. As a trained SES volunteer, you could be assisting police in search and rescue operations or providing support during major bushfires. For more information, visit the SES website.  

     

  • Coastcare Victoria

    Coastcare Victoria is a community volunteer group with opportunities to help protect coastal and marine environments along Victoria’s 2000km coastline.  As a Coastcarer, you can help monitor native shorebirds and animals, or build tracks, boardwalks and fences. For more information, visit the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning website.  

     

  • Landcare Victoria

    Landcare is community-based volunteer movement with opportunities to care for the environment in local land and water projects.   • Volunteer at Zoos Victoria

    Zoos Victoria provides long term volunteering opportunities in its three zoos — Healesville Sanctuary, Melbourne Zoo and Werribee Open Range Zoo. As a volunteer, you can guide visitors or help out in the office doing administrative tasks.   • Museums Victoria

    Museums Victoria Museums Victoria has volunteering opportunities in its three museums — Melbourne Museum, Scienceworks and Immigration Museum. As a volunteer, you can help visitors in the museums or support staff behind the scenes in administration and research work. For more information, visit the Museums Victoria website.  

     

  • Volunteering at Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI)

    ACMI has volunteering opportunities for people passionate about film, TV, video games, digital culture and art. As a trained volunteer, you can assist at events and exhibitions or introduce visitors to galleries and exhibitions. For more information, visit the ACMI website.  

     

  • Office of the Public Advocate volunteer programs (OPA)

    OPA has volunteer roles to help people with disability. As a volunteer, you might visit group homes to monitor and report on the services provided.   • Public Record Office Victoria (PROV)
