Graduate Recruitment and Development Scheme (GRADS)

Start making your impact in the Victorian community through GRADS.

The Victorian Public Service (VPS) GRADS will give you the foundation skills and knowledge to succeed — before taking up an ongoing role in your second year of employment.

What’s in it for you

The GRADS tailored learning and development program will set you up with core technical and soft skills over 12 months. You'll develop skills in project management, data analysis, communication, problem solving and leadership. GRADS is designed to give you the skills and knowledge you need to thrive as a public sector employee.

You'll also gain an understanding of government-related subject matter — in a wide variety of government functions and projects across Victoria. So you can apply what you learn in the work environment.

Throughout your GRADS journey, we'll fully support you. You'll  be assigned a mentor and a buddy from your cohort, at which time you can start building your VPS network, as well as gain new and different perspectives about the Victorian Government.

When you finish GRADS, we'll promote you into an ongoing VPS 3 role.

Three streams to choose from

Choose from three streams that match your study area and interest:

  • Generalist — graduates from any academic discipline
  • Accounting and Finance — graduates with accounting or finance major
  • Economist — graduates with economics or econometrics major

Experience three rotations

Graduates rotate through three different departments and agencies across metropolitan Melbourne and some regional areas on four-month assignments. From this breadth of experience and knowledge, you'll gain a whole of government perspective of the public sector.
