About the Role

The Women's and Children's Division at Sunshine Hospital has an opportunity for a full-time Paediatric HMO position (PGY2-4) for a 3 month contract commencing 1st November 2021.

Sunshine Hospital serves a large paediatric population. There is a 32 bed Children's Ward with a mixture of medical and surgical patients, admitting 5,000 children per year.  There are approximately 30,000 Paediatric Emergency presentations per year, and General Paediatrics works closely with the team in the Paediatric Emergency department.  There is a busy General Paediatric Outpatient unit, and HMO’s may attend consultant clinics in General and Subspecialty Paediatrics. This role is not accredited for RACP Basic Training in Paediatrics and Child Health.

Applicants must have full general registration with AHPRA and have a minimum of 6 months experience working as a doctor within the Australian health system. Applicants currently contracted to another health service should seek confirmation they could be released from this contract if successful, prior to submitting an application to Western Health.

Notable features of the department and position include:

  • Daily consultant ward rounds, and all HMO shifts are supported by on-site registrar cover.

  • Exposure to a wide range of inpatient and outpatient paediatric conditions and support to assess and manage children in the ED and ward.

  • At least 5 paediatric registrars are on-site 24/7 across the Children’s Ward, Paed ED, and NICU

  • Active teaching and research programs in place.  Paediatric simulation scenarios are regularly run on the ward and HMO’s are rostered to attend.  Participation in quarterly Regional paediatric education programs and full day group simulation programs is also available.  Opportunity to apply for leave to attend Paediatric Life Support courses which run regularly at Western Health.

The positions at Sunshine Hospital will suit junior medical staff wanting an opportunity to develop broad skills in general paediatrics.

Further rotations in 2022 in the Western Health General HMO Training Stream may also be available for interested applicants.
