About our 2022 GM/NP

We believe in providing a highly supportive environment for all Graduate Midwives/Nurses that encourages professional development and excellence in nursing care.  Our aim is to provide clinical structured support during the transition from student to Registered Midwife/Nurse, whilst encouraging self-directed learning. 

This 53-week program commencing from February 2022 offers the opportunity for you to consolidate and apply theoretical knowledge by developing skills in a variety of settings. The program comprises of 6 months rotations in the Midwifery Unit and another acute area. Graduate Midwives/Nurses have the option to work either full or part time hours (a minimum 64 hours per fortnight) to support work/life balance. While the program is for 12 months only, opportunities to apply for ongoing employment will be available.

All our GM/NP positions are subject to the state-wide Computer Matching process, conducted by the Post Graduate Medical Council of Victoria (PMCV). All public health Graduate Nurse positions are allocated in Victoria through this Computer Matching Service. To be eligible for our GM/NP you must have a current residential address within Victoria. Graduates of interstate Universities or full-fee paying Victoria graduates can still apply for a limited number of places. Refer to PMCV guidelines and website for full details at www.pmcv.com.au

How to apply

To be eligible for these positions you must have completed a double degree in both Nursing and Midwifery.

  1. One page Cover Letter addressed to Gaynor Stevenson (Executive Director of Nursing and Midwifery) indicating why you would like to undertake a Graduate Midwifery/ Nurse Program at South West Healthcare
  2. Curriculum Vitae/Resume (maximum two pages), including one clinical placement referee and one non-clinical employee referee
  3. Copy of your academic transcript to date (including grading key)
  4. Copy of two most recent acute clinical placement assessments
  5. Copy of passport styled photograph of applicant

The successful applicant will be required to be eligible for and undergo the following:

  •             Police Record Check

  •             Employee Working with Children's Check

  •             Current Immunisation status
