Status: Full time 12 month position commencing February 2022

Would you like to work in an environment that offers a:

  • Diverse patient base that are friendly and accepting of people learning

  • Excellent clinical exposure across a range of urological sub-specialties

  • 5 to 10 minute commute to get to work

  • Dynamic and growing health service that embraces technology & innovative care models

The Position

This position is suitable for a candidate post fellowship exam (FRACS Urol) or equivalent. Paid at the rate of a senior registrar (refer to classification) however you will be working at the level of a fellow.

This is an extremely exciting position as it allows the candidate to “choose their own adventure” and select a particular area of urology to focus on as the roster is flexible enough to allow both exposure to public and private work.  The urology unit at Bendigo Health covers the full spectrum of sub-speciality urology (excluding open RPLND for testicular cancer and robotic surgery – although one of the consultants has a robotic list monthly in Melbourne that you are welcome to attend).  Clinics are separated by sub-speciality e.g. FPMRS, stone, uro-oncology so clinic attendance can be tailored to your educational needs and sub-speciality interest.

The fellowship options include:

  • FPMRS – with dedicated training in urodynamics, incontinence surgery (urethral bulking, botox, sacroneuromodulation, mid-urethral and fascial slings, male slings and AUS), prolapse surgery (AP repair, apical repair inc. SSF/USLF, colpocleisis, ASC), mesh removal, and male reconstructive surgery (anastomotic or buccal graft urethroplasty, penile prostheses)

  • Uro-oncology – including Radical cystectomy, open radical prostatectomy, open partial nephrectomy, laparoscopic nephrectomy, laparoscopic retroperitoneal LN biopsies (this fellowship option can also be combined with male reconstructive surgery)

  • General Urology – Laparoscopic surgery, endo-urology inc supine & prone PCNL, basic FPMRS, prostatic urolift, penile & scrotal surgery

The applicant will work with 4 urology consultants, 2 nurse practitioners (one uro-oncology, one FPMRS), an accredited SET registrar, HMO and an intern.  In addition to the sub-speciality focus, you will have unsupervised operating sessions with predominantly an endo-urology focus (stones, TURPs, TURBTs) and participate in the on-call roster with consultant back up available at all times).  BH has strong links with the Monash Rural Clinical School so there are good opportunities for research and teaching if desired.
