About the Role
Victorian Heart Hospital (VHH) is the first Cardiovascular hospital in Australia. The VHH registrar is to provide neurology consultation to the VHH patients under the supervision of the responsible consultation neurologist. This is a part time role providing three days per week consultation and phone consultation with follow up of VHH patients.
This is a unique opportunity for the experience of managing complex cardiovascular patients with neurological complications such as stroke. Monash Medical Centre is one of the two designated state-wide endovascular clot retrieval centre which provides comprehensive state-of-the art stroke management. In addition, the stroke and neurology department are proactive in clinical research.
We encourage the VHH registrar to consider clinical research or fellowship in Stroke in the remaining time given this role is to provide care to patients with cardiovascular disease. The department will provide appropriate training and supervision. The strength of the stroke unit is in MR and CT perfusion imaging, clinical trials, geospatial and epidemiological research in the field of stroke. The VHH registrar can also access further neurology training experience through the department such as ambulatory care, tutorials, lectures, and supervisions. Opportunities for further clinical work is available such as neurology oncall and other clinical work (e.g. ward work at MMC) if the VHH registrar desires.
