As an Aboriginal Community Liaison Officer (ACLO), you will be responsible for enhancing relationships between police and the local Aboriginal Community, as well as establishing effective communication and networks between the police, Aboriginal community, government and non-government agencies.

As the Aboriginal Community Liaison Officer, you will be responsible for:

  • Working in partnership with Aboriginal community groups, to develop and maintain knowledge of Aboriginal issues within the local area and maintain a contemporary knowledge of relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
  • Contributing to establishing effective communication and networking between Police members, local Aboriginal community members and other government and non-government agencies.
  • Establishing and maintaining a positive partnership environment in which Aboriginal communities are encouraged to communicate and interact with Police members to proactively resolve issues and actively promote awareness of the role of Victoria Police within Aboriginal communities.
  • Assist in the developing, implementing and delivering appropriate training programs.
  • Participating in the development and implementation of appropriate strategies to improve service delivery to customers based on customer needs.
  • Attending to welfare needs and providing support to Aboriginal persons in custody; working alongside Aboriginal Community Justice Program (ACJP) members.
  • Preparing briefing notes and reports.


As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • Demonstrated knowledge, experience and understanding of the Victorian Aboriginal community, including the historical and contemporary issues impacting on the community.
  • Demonstrated community engagement and experience working with the Victorian Aboriginal community.
  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills to negotiate and articulate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility, initiative and adaptability to meet changing work requirements.


Requirements and relevant information:

  • Full time ongoing position available
  • VPS salary range: $70,791 - $85,956pa, plus superannuation
  • This is a designated position. In accordance to Special Measures of section 12 of the Equal Opportunities Act 2010, only Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply.
  • Your usual place of work will be at Swan Hill Police Station located in Campbell Street, Swan Hill; however, you will be required to work at any other location within the Division as required.
  • For this role you will be required to apply and pay for a Working with Children Check prior to receiving a job offer. A receipt of payment is required as evidence of this.
  • You are required to possess a current Victorian Driver Licence and hold or qualify for a White Class Driver Authority within three (3) months.
  • Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa
  • The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
