As an Aboriginal Community Liaison Officer (ACLO), you will be responsible for enhancing relationships between police and the local Aboriginal Community, as well as establishing effective communication and networks between the police, Aboriginal community, government and non-government agencies.

Your duties will include:

  • Monitoring custody records for Aboriginal persons coming into contact with Victoria Police
  • Development and delivery of training programs including the Aboriginal Cultural Awareness Training
  • Liaison with the Aboriginal Community Justice Panel
  • Ensuring police compliance with the Aboriginal Family Violence Police Protocols
  • Participating in meetings with Wathaurong
  • Participating in Barwon Local Aboriginal Justice Action Committee meetings
  • Participating in Barwon South West Regional Aboriginal Justice Advisory Committee
  • Preparing high level reports on issues for managers


As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • Demonstrated knowledge, experience and understanding of the Victorian Aboriginal community, including the historical and contemporary issues impacting on the community.
  • Demonstrated community engagement and experience working with the Victorian Aboriginal community.
  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills to negotiate and articulate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility, initiative and adaptability to meet changing work requirements.


Requirements and relevant information:

  • Full time, ongoing position availiable
  • VPS salary range: $70,791 - $85,956pa, plus superannuation
  • This is a designated position. In accordance to Special Measures of section 12 of Equal Opportunities Act 2010, only Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply.
  • Your usual place of work will be Geelong Police Station located in Mercer Street, Geelong; however, you will be required to work at any other location within the Division as required.
  • For this role you will be required to apply and pay for a Working with Children Check prior to receiving a job offer. A receipt of payment is required as evidence of this.
  • You are required to posses as current Victorian Driver Licence and hold or qualify for a White Class Drivers Authority within three (3) months.
  • Applicant must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.
  • The successfuil candidate will be required to undero pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
