Aboriginal Health Liaison Officer

Permanent Part Time – 48 hours per fortnight

Classification: Community Development Worker Class 2A

Award: Allied Health Professionals (Victorian Public Health Sector) Single Interest Enterprise Agreement 2016 – 2020

This is a great opportunity to join the team at MDHS who inspire health and are committed to creating a culturally safe organisation, whilst working in a new and exciting position as the Aboriginal Hospital Liaison Officer! MDHS has current focus on providing an organisational cultural sensitivity through a recently commenced a Reconciliation Action Plan. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting MDHS to provide culturally appropriate health care to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community through health promotion, education and help to access services.

We are looking for someone with the following qualities:

  • Embrace and promote the values of MDHS – Genuine, Respect, Excellence, Accountability & Togetherness
  • Relevant qualifications in health, community services or similar field would be an advantage
  • Knowledge and understanding of aboriginal culture, society and kinship networks
  • Ability to communicate with and be accepted by the aboriginal community
  • Understanding of aboriginal health issues and priorities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
