The Role:

RCH’s Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) provides services for several state and national programs including heart, liver and intestinal transplantation; trauma; and a paediatric retrieval service. As a registered nurse working within our 22 bedded tertiary ICU, you will be working with state of the art equipment in our new facility.

We currently have a number of ongoing employment opportunities available for Registered Nurses to join our Paediatric Intensive Care Unit in July 2020. This is a great opportunity for AHPRA Registered Nurses to transition into Critical Care through the ACPIC (Advancing Competencies in Paediatric Intensive Care) Program. The ACPIC is an intensive, challenging and fast paced program that attracts the attention of motivated nurses who are active participants in driving their own learning.

In joining the 12 week structured program, nurses will be provided with the skills and knowledge needed to work as beginning practitioners in critical care with a direct focus on the PICU Competency framework. You will receive three professional development days exploring the essential theoretical concepts of paediatric intensive care nursing followed by supported clinical exposure to critically ill patients. The ACPIC program includes supernumerary time and ongoing clinical support from the nursing education team to assist in nurses’ transition to an intensive care environment.

PICU offers flexible rostering options, as 12 hour shifts may be available following the completion of the 12 week program. A number of established pathways to advanced practice roles exists within PICU, and additionally, the RCH offers a Post Graduate Nursing Scholarship Program.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) administered through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA)

  • Recent experience in an acute, medical / surgical / speciality paediatric nursing unit

  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing personal and professional development, as evidenced in a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) record/Professional Practice Portfolio (PPP)
