Drug Heath Services is seeking an experienced Clinical Nurse Consultant to provide high quality clinical liaison support to the Paediatric Emergency Department at Sunshine Hospital. This is an innovative role and an exciting opportunity to deliver support to a rapidly growing unit, in a fast-paced work environment.


The Adolescent AOD ED CNC will provide expert advice to Paediatric Emergency Department staff in identifying and engaging patients presenting with substance use issues. This position will also require engaging patients in brief interventions, motivational enhancement, assessment and linkage across the spectrum of presenting AOD needs. Identification of service gaps, with the opportunity to develop and implement quality assurance projects and training will also form a key part of the CNC role in this space. The position will function as a clinical interface between Adolescent Services within Drug Health Services and Paediatric Sunshine Emergency Department in planning and providing treatment to adolescents presenting with high risk substance use issues.


The successful candidate will have: high level written and verbal communication skills; experience working in acute health settings, as well with alcohol and other drug issues; a desire to role model high level nursing skills and support other staff to attain excellence in practice



To be Successful in this Role you:

  • will have knowledge of adolescent development and clinical expertise in managing adolescent complex substance use presentations

  • will have experience in providing treatment interventions with a family centred approach

  • will possess excellent engagement skills

  • have experience working in acute health care settings

  • will have a desire to role model high level nursing skills to support others to attain excellence in practice
