ANUM - Short Stay Unit

An exciting leadership opportunity exists on the Short Stay Ward for an Associate Nurse Unit Manager position.

In this role, you will be over seeing the eight bed unit in a supernumery capacity with the potential to take a patient load dependent on acuity. Your leadership skills extends beyond the management of day to day patient bed flow; it is a dynamic role in providing staff with professional development and a dedication to providing best patient centred care.

About Short Stay Unit


We are a 24/7 service with the flexing down of beds over the weekend.

The unit’s primary focus is on caring for the overnight post-operative patient with the aim of discharge home the following day. Due to increasing patient demand for specialised care, the Short Stay unit also provides cardiac monitoring with trained staff adept at rapidly assessing patients across the oncology care continuum and stabilising patients prior to transfer to an inpatient ward setting for ongoing long-term care.

About You

The successful applicant will have a sound nursing oncology background in an acute care setting with a desirable experience in nursing management or nurse in charge roles. Exceptional clinical leadership, sound communication skills and ability to work within a dynamic fast paced ward environment is essential.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate within a multi-disciplinary team.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with health professionals at both a clinical and executive level.

  • Demonstrated ability to be innovative, resourceful and adaptive to change.

  • Supports the orientation of new staff members, contributes to and participates in staff recruitment and supports NUM with staff appraisals.

  • Strong understanding of and commitment to quality improvement.

  • High level of reliability and professional conduct.

  • A thorough understanding of factors that lead to effective patient flow and access.

  • High-level operational skills.

  • Consistently models behaviours that contribute to a culture of respect, excellence, compassion and innovation for patients, families and multidisciplinary staff.

  • Consistently adheres to standards and policies of the organisation and ensures they are translated into action within the unit.

  • Interested in obtaining skills in cardiac monitoring, if they do not currently have the competency.
