Senior leadership opportunity available within VLA Chambers in the role of Associate, Director Chambers.

  • Full time (part time considered) maximum term position up to 10 months
  • Salary commensurate with experience, range: $142,803–$164,267 (pro rata) plus superannuation

About the role:
You will lead and manage the operations of VLA Chambers by ensuring the efficient and effective use of in-house counsel. You will also manage a coordinated briefing practice and policy to ensure that quality in-house and external counsel are developed, deployed and evaluated in the interests of legally aided clients.

As Associate Director you will be responsible for managing work allocation, developing and monitoring briefing practices, liaising with external stakeholders and driving change within VLA to ensure that efficient briefing is supported by appropriate business processes. You will coordinate professional development and training across a group of advocates and assist the Chief Counsel in performance management.

About you:
You will be an influential leader with extensive knowledge and experience of the Victorian justice system, legal issues and law reform. You will have demonstrated experience in operations management preferably gained within the public legal sector. You will have demonstrated management experience with sound knowledge of finance processes and experience adhering to strict budgets. You will be results driven with proven ability to deliver results in complex operational and strategic settings.

You will have good knowledge of legal practitioners and advocates, including their experience, strengths and capabilities. You will rely on your excellent communication skills to effectively manage and resolve conflict, and have solid knowledge of, and experience in dealing with major trials (experience dealing with regional circuits will be highly regarded).

Crucial to your success in this role will be your highly developed stakeholder management skills and your ability to build mutually beneficial relationships with key stakeholders to influence and generate engagement towards common outcomes and systemic benefits that improve VLA's staff and client experience.
