About Unit 4 at Dandenong Hospital

Mental Health Program


Monash Health Mental Health Services provides a range of community, bed-based and specialist services covering the Casey, Cardinia, Greater Dandenong, Kingston and Monash LGAs – a population of nearly one million. It has an operational budget of $130 million and employs approximately 820 EFT, representing over 1000 staff.


The Program has a number of clinical units including three adult units (Casey, Dandenong and Clayton), an Early in Life Mental Health Service (comprising infant, child, adolescent and youth services), Psychology and Specialist Services (PsySS), Drug & Alcohol service and a Gender Dysphoria clinic. Southern Synergy supports the Mental Health Programs with specialist research innovations. The program has five PARCS (Preventions and Recovery Care Services) which includes a specialist Women’s only PARCs, an Extended Care PARCs and Youth PARCS. The clinical service is supported by an aligned operational structure to enable the provision of high quality service through the creation of clinical-operational partnerships to support staff, patients, carers and their families, and a strong professional structure that supports the governance of the health professional workforce.


SECU (Unit 4) at Monash Health Dandenong is a 50 bed Secure Extended Care Unit that provides medium to long-term inpatient treatment and rehabilitation for people who have unremitting and severe symptoms of mental illness or disorder. We are a large multidisciplinary team with speciality skills that can meet the holistic needs of our patients. About the Role


An opportunity has become available for an experienced Mental Health Nurse to grow their career as an Associate Nurse Manager.


The position will allow you to develop skills in leadership and support the Nurse Manager with the daily functioning of the unit ensuring that the clients and their families are receiving excellent care.


This is an ongoing Full time opportunity, across 7 days and a rotating roster.


About You


You are a suitably qualified Mental Health Nurse with excellent clinical knowledge. You are interested in delivering outstanding outcomes for our patients. You are also interested in quality improvement initiatives and will assist us to drive and deliver these. You love mental health nursing because you are passionate about therapeutically using yourself to support your patients’ unique journey to a life inspired by hope and potential.


Additionally you will possess:



  • Post Graduate Diploma in Mental Health Nursing (or working towards to same) or completion of a specialist undergraduate psychiatric nursing program or specialist post basic course of training which led to registration as a Division 3 nurse.  

  • Consolidation of knowledge gained from basic RPN course, with a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience.

  • Demonstrated experience working in mental health using psycho-social recovery principles of care.

  • You are an advocate of Monash Health’s Strategic Guiding Principles


What you need:



  • Current AHPRA registration

  • Mental Health Nursing experience – minimum 2 years

  • Relevant Qualifications in Mental Health Nursing

  • Focus on Patient-Centred Care  

  • Relevant working visa
