Sunshine Mental Health and Wellbeing Centre - Inpatient Units

  • Multiple positions available - Full Time/Part time, ongoing roles

Your new team:

The Sunshine Hospital Mental Health and Wellbeing Centre (SHMH&WC) is a new adult acute mental health precinct consisting of 52 new mental health beds (2 x 26 bed units) and Sunshine Adult Acute Psychiatric Unit (SAAPU) which is the existing 29 bed acute mental health unit. The new units are currently under construction and are due to become operational from July 2023. This project is referred to as the Pathway to 144 mental health beds (P144 project) and is part of the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System (RCVMHS).

The ANUM will initially join the SAAPU or Western Inpatient Psychiatric Unit (WIPU) teams to receive training in the current MWAMHS units and develop their leadership skills and knowledge prior to transitioning into the new mental health units later in 2023. The ANUM will play a key role in the transition, establishment and implementation of the new units.

The Associate Unit Nurse Manager (ANUM) will be a core staff member of the leadership team and the multidisciplinary team. The ANUM will be responsible for providing leadership, coordination and support to nursing staff on their allocated shifts.

Your new role:

  • Provide shift leadership to nursing staff and ensure high quality care is delivered to consumers admitted to the unit
  • Engage with and support consumers, their families and their carers with developing and achieving optimal mental health
  • Share your clinical expertise, support and be a part of a multidisciplinary team to support consumer recovery.
  • Support the delivery of a recovery oriented and trauma informed service
  • Deliver evidence-based mental health and nursing interventions to consumers and their families and carers.

About you:

  • Previous clinical experience and leadership in delivering mental health and nursing interventions, preferably in an acute setting.
  • Passionate about meeting the mental health and wellbeing recovery needs of consumers and their families and carers
  • Demonstrated problem solving and negotiation skills
  • Ability to engage and collaborate with consumers, families and carers in their mental health recovery planning
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate clearly and work effectively within a multidisciplinaryteam
