The Biodiversity Recovery Project Officer is responsible for the planning and delivery of threatened fauna species (small mammals, e.g. Spot-tailed quoll, Long-footed / Long-nosed potoroo) conservation project/s focusing on species monitoring, assessment and implementation of actions to support long-term population resilience.

The position will provide expertise in, and practical application of, small mammal conservation management, including species monitoring, genetics and population resilience; and be responsible for leading and contributing to specialist field-work and office-based activities. Establishing collaborative partnerships with a range of stakeholders, including land managers and scientific experts will be important to position success. Effective record and data management, analysis and reporting (including systems management and the preparation of written, verbal and geospatial/mapping information) is critical to this role.

The successful applicant will be an experienced biodiversity or natural environment management professional with proven skills and expertise in threatened fauna species (preferably small mammals) conservation, genetics and population resilience monitoring and action; and, have a strong commitment to working as part of a team to collectively deliver Gippsland's Bushfire Biodiversity Response and Recovery Program funding package.

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

  • An appropriate tertiary qualification in natural resource management or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge and skills in mammals or other fauna translocations is desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience and competence with data and information management (including geographic information/spatial).
  • Current Victorian driver's licence (mandatory).

This is a fixed term position available until 30 June 2022.
