  • Location: Negotiable within the Gippsland Region Contribute to and support the recovery of East Gippsland’s biodiversity impacted by the 2019-2020 bushfires through the provision of expert biodiversity values assessment and advice services.

The Biodiversity Recovery Officer is responsible for providing professional advice and a high-quality biodiversity value checking service to internal and external agencies and stakeholders delivering fire and threatened species recovery programs and projects within East Gippsland

The position ensures biodiversity assets are identified, considered and risk mitigation actions determined as part of the planning and delivery of fire and threatened species recovery activities. The position focuses on service excellence; and, developing and maintaining working relationships internal and external stakeholders involved in fire recovery. Effective record and data management, analysis and reporting (including preparation of written, verbal and geospatial/mapping information) is critical to this role.

The successful applicant will demonstrate expertise in understanding and advising on biodiversity values, with proven skills and experience assessing biodiversity values and activities that risk these values. The successful applicant will have a strong commitment to working effectively with others to protect biodiversity values and support fire recovery and threatened species activities; and, be a key contributor to the team delivering Gippsland's Bushfire Biodiversity Response and Recovery Program funding package.

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

  • Knowledge and understanding of biodiversity and ecological communities in Gippsland region.
  • An appropriate tertiary qualification in natural resource management or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrate experience and competence with spatial data management systems is highly desirable.
  • Current Victorian driver's licence (mandatory).

This is a fixed term position available until 30 June 2022.
