Reporting to the Leading Biosecurity Officer – North Central, the Biosecurity Officer is responsible for the delivery of plant, chemical and invasive species projects and investigations within the Northern region.

You will work as a member of a diverse team within the Northern region to deliver on a range of interesting and high priority biosecurity projects including:

  • invasive plant and animal projects including extension and compliance activities
  • pest and disease surveillance
  • regulating the use of agricultural and veterinary chemicals by responding to allegations of chemical misuse
  • emergency preparedness and response

The position plays a crucial role in supporting industry and communities in maintaining market access to domestic and international trade by mitigating the economic and social effects of invasive plants and animals, pests and diseases and chemical misuse in Victoria.

As part of an integrated and flexible business model within the Biosecurity and Agriculture Services Branch, you may also provide support to other programs or other regions.

The successful applicant will work effectively as a member of a team, enjoy flexible working arrangements and undertake a wide variety of work across the Branch, establishing strong working relationships with internal staff and various external stakeholders including private landowners, community and industry groups as well as local and state government agencies.

As this is a regulatory position, you will be required to conduct investigations and may appear in court.

This position has responsibilities under the Catchment and Land Protection Act 1994, the Plant Biosecurity Act 2010 and the Agricultural and Veterinary Chemicals (Control of Use) Act 1992.
