The Bushfire Recovery Practitioners are state-wide leaders based in Areas who will work with schools in Outer Gippsland Area to support the psychosocial recovery of children and young people.

Bushfire Recovery Practitioner x 2 - Fixed term - 31 December 2022

The Bushfire Recovery Practitioners are state-wide leaders based in Areas who will work with schools in Outer Gippsland Area to support the psychosocial recovery of children and young people. The role will compliment other mental health supports and services in Outer Gippsland, with a specific focus on Bushfire affected educational communities. The Bushfire Recovery Practitioner will:

  1. Work across several allocated government schools to guide them through psychosocial recovery, using a cyclical process of needs assessment, planning interventions, implementing interventions and evaluating their efficacy
  2. Provide schools with regular in-person visits to support students in psychosocial recovery, which may include: 
  • secondary consultation with school staff to provide supports to staff and build their capability
  • direct intervention for individual children and young people demonstrating mild to moderate mental health needs as a  result of their bushfire experience
  • Promoting and leveraging existing Area Health Wellbeing and Inclusion initiatives (such as Respectful Relationships or  School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support)
  • Working with school staff to refer students to external agencies
  • Supporting psychosocial recovery by incorporating trauma recovery activities into whole school health  and wellbeing plans
  • build supportive relationships with Area staff and external agencies to collaboratively drive the implementation of evidence based multi-disciplinary approaches to psychosocial recovery
  • provide advice and leadership across Victoria to other communities regarding psychosocial supports durirecovery from bushfires and other disasters
  • report data regularly to Area leadership (who will provide the administrative and supportive function of your supervision) and the state-wide Trauma Recovery Team (who will provide the educative function of your supervision).
