Selection Criteria

SC1    Demonstrated exemplary financial analysis, financial management and financial reporting skills applicable in a complex special setting. This will assume experience with the entire CASES 21 Finance Module.

SC2    Demonstrated experience in budget development and analysis associated with both the school’s local budget and the Student Resource Package.

SC3   Sound knowledge of financial management legal requirements and practices, including the capacity to produce reports and provide advice in respect to those reports. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in respect to financial management records systems.

SC4    High level organizational skills, including the capacity to prioritise work flows.

SC5    High level written and verbal communication skills.

Role

48/52 position with LPA paid during Christmas vacation as required.

Range 4 is distinguished by broader management responsibility, particularly in the areas of finance, human resource and other support functions.  Range 4 is responsible for managing a range of functions under a wide range of conditions, subject to the size and complexity of school operations. 

Objectives will, generally, be clearly defined; guidelines will be broad and day-to-day direction minimal.  Management responsibility extends to ensuring appropriate support levels are maintained across the school.  Range 4 generally provides key support and timely advice to the leadership team and school council and liaises with the general school community, the Department and other government agencies and service providers.

Specialised professional roles will carry a high level of independence and accountability where suitable scope is provided to achieve objectives.

An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students, but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor.  Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employee's position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.

Responsibilities

  • AT GLENALLEN SCHOOL THE ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE BUSINESS MANAGER ARE AS FOLLOWS:

    This is a senior management position responsible for the effective coordination of all administrative, financial management functions at the school.

    The Business Manager will oversee the delivery of financial services within the school, including all areas of Cases21 Finance and on-line-banking.

  • The Business Manager will work collaboratively with the Glenallen School Leadership Team.
  • Develop and implement a range of strategies to ensure effective administration and management of finance programs including:
  • accounts payable/receivable

    on-line-banking (Commbiz)

    local payroll

    superannuation

    maintenance of an effective annual budget

    ATO requirements (including GST, BAS, FBT procedures etc).

    Asset Management

    School Maintenance System (SMS) management

  • Ensure the assets of the school are maintained through the assets register and are reviewed on an annual basis (Co-ordinate bi-annual stock take undertaken by third party)
  • Manage all SMS orders and payments and support the Maintenance Manager who will develop the school maintenance plan
  • Assist with the hiring of the school’s facilities and equipment in accordance with the policy and guidelines established by the school and DET.
  • Oversee and coordinate the implementation of requisitioning purchasing and issuing procedures in Cases 21 Finance
  • Active membership of Finance Sub Committee of School Council
  • Provide a range of administrative, research and support duties for the School Council the Principal and the Leadership Team

Other Information

This position is for 2 days per week as a Business Manager responsible for Finance.  To work closely with 3 day per week Business Manager responsible for HR.  Days of week to be negotiated.

Location Profile

Glenallen School, located at 7 Allen Street, Glen Waverley, provides individual learning programs for students aged between 4.8 and 18 years, who have a physical disability and/or significant health impairment requiring paramedical support. The school caters for students with a wide range of intellectual abilities. Current students have complex needs and often multiple disabilities.

Trans-disciplinary teams including teachers, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech pathologists work together to plan, implement and evaluate individual student focused learning programs. Other support staff includes a music therapist, nurses, community wellbeing officer, program assistants and disability support workers.

Our aim is to provide for the development of each student intellectually, socially, physically and emotionally. Individual educational and therapeutic programs are designed to promote student achievement as well as maximising independence in functional activities of daily living. Each student is encouraged to be an active participant in their individual learning program.
