Established in 2009, Bastow is the professional learning arm of the Victorian Department of Education and Training (Bastow). Its mission is to develop capable and confident educational leaders by extending leadership capability and promoting continuous personal growth in dynamic leadership roles. Its work is critical to increasing the number of high-quality leaders at every level across the Victorian education system. Bastow delivers high-quality, innovative and evidence-based leadership learning to aspiring and current educational leaders to build their capacity, knowledge and skills at every career stage. This, in turn, supports Victorian educators to drive sustained improvement of learning outcomes of children and young people.

The CEO is responsible for the strategic leadership and management of the institute, and representing Bastow in major public forums. The CEO will be a highly credentialled professional with evidenced experience leading teams of ~70 people through periods of growth and transformation. The CEO will have a direct impact on the following:

  • Strategy: lead and implement strategic and operational reform. Initiate strategies that improve organisational performance and quality.
  • Growth: bring commercial acumen and be open to developing new opportunities nationally and internationally.
  • Collaboration: build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Culture: cultivate positive, innovative work environments and foster a high-performance culture.
  • System leadership: have a broad influence on policy, with extensive reach and impact.
  • Delivery: deliver high-quality, innovative and evidence-based leadership learning.

You will have extensive knowledge of the education sector, with comprehensive knowledge of contemporary educational theory and practice. Tertiary qualifications in one or more relevant fields are required.
