About the facility

At Barwon Health, ultrasound facilities are provided at University Hospital Geelong, The McKellar Centre and Barwon Health North. The mix of acute hospital and community/private settings provides an interesting and diverse patient cohort.

Medical Imaging have recently upgraded their facilities with a new state of the art purpose built ultrasound department. Our equipment consists of newly purchased Philips Epic 5G machines. The sonographer team includes a well-established sonographer training program lead by a Tutor Sonographer and Clinical Educator.

About the role

The Chief Sonographer provides leadership and accountability for the ultrasound service across Barwon Health. The Chief Sonographer supports the provision of an ultrasound service 24/7.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the position has a key influential role in the oversight, operational management and development of Ultrasound in consultation with other clinical leads within Medical Imaging. The position supports and mentors Sonographers to analyse, plan and develop Ultrasound to achieve Barwon Health’s strategic objectives.

Together, with the Director of Medical Imaging, Operations Manager and Clinical Support and Communications Manager this role helps drive the Ultrasound team to achieve Barwon Health’s strategic objectives.
