Selection Criteria

Role

Range 2 classroom teachers play a significant role in assisting the school to improve student performance and educational outcomes determined by the school strategic plan and state-wide priorities and contributing to the development and implementation of school policies and priorities. 

A critical component of this work will focus on increasing the knowledge base of staff within their school about student learning and high quality instruction to assist their school to define quality teacher practice.

Range 2 classroom teachers will be expected to:

  • Have the content knowledge and pedagogical practice to meet the diverse needs of all students
  • Model exemplary classroom practice and mentor/coach other teachers in the school to engage in critical reflection of their practice and to support staff to expand their capacity
  • Provide expert advice about the content, processes and strategies that will shape individual and school professional learning
  • Supervise and train one or more student teachers
  • Assist staff to use student data to inform teaching approaches that enable targets related to improving student learning outcomes to be achieved.

Responsibilities

The role of classroom teacher may include but is not limited to:

  • Direct teaching of groups of students and individual students;
  • Contributing to the development, implementation and evaluation of a curriculum area or other curriculum program within the school;
  • Undertaking other classroom teaching related and organisational duties as determined by the School Principal;
  • Participating in activities such as parent/teacher meetings; staff meetings; camps and excursions;
  • Undertaking other non-teaching supervisory duties.

Who May Apply

Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.

VIT LANTITE

To be eligible for employment, transfer or promotion in the principal or teacher class a person must have provisional or full registration from the Victorian Institute of Teaching. In addition, from 3 August 2020, to be eligible for employment in the principal class or teacher class, a person who graduated from a Victorian Initial Teacher Education program after 1 July 2016, must demonstrate that they have passed the literacy and numeracy test for initial teacher education (LANTITE) requirements. This condition is satisfied where the LANTITE requirement is part of the Victorian Initial Teacher Education program completed by the person.

For positions in special settings, a person is not eligible for employment unless they meet the vaccination requirements on commencement in the position.

Location Profile

Established in 1879, Mulgrave Primary School is set in large, well-maintained spacious grounds. The school has an enrolment cap of 450 students, but currently cares for approximately 460 students.  A strong partnership exists between parents, students and staff which is reflected across all areas of the school. Mulgrave Primary School is committed to providing quality education that prepares all students to succeed and reach their full potential in our ever-changing world. The school community supports school values based on motivation and persistence, leading to success, both academically and socially. We are proud of our friendly, respectful and welcoming environment which starts in the school office and continues right throughout the school.

Classroom programs are enriched and supported by quality specialist programs. Continuous improvement in all areas of teaching and learning is a high priority at Mulgrave Primary School. Our school is very well resourced in computer technology. Students regularly use a wide range of devices in their learning. Every classroom has an interactive whiteboard or interactive television. Our timetabled STEM and Music programs are very much enjoyed by all students. A major focus on consolidating the fundamentals of literacy and numeracy is evident across all year levels. Students at both ends of the learning spectrum are supported, in order that they meet and aim to exceed their learning potential. Our language program is Spanish and is provided for all students.

Every second year each child participates in our whole school musical production. As well as our school-based music program, students can participate in private music lessons. A wide range of lunchtime club activities is offered to students throughout the year.

Students in grades three to six have the opportunity to participate in our camping programs which are offered every two years. Our grade two students have the opportunity of a 'sleepover' each year, to help prepare them for school camps the next year. A major priority at the school is to ensure that all staff members receive regular professional learning opportunities, to ensure that they themselves continue to learn and grow both personally and professionally.

Our school boasts a lovely garden/environment area. We encourage all students to participate in growing and planting vegetables and experience the excitement of trying new foods and cooking up the produce. We have a recycling program in place across the school. Our Student Voice Team representatives are actively involved in this program and other school beautification programs.

Sport, health and recreation are given a high profile at Mulgrave Primary School. All students participate in school-based sport and physical education, as well as tennis, soccer and other clinics. Our middle and senior students participate in interschool sports and have achieved considerable success.

At Mulgrave Primary School our teaching and learning programs are developed to ensure students can challenge themselves in a range of areas in order to discover their strengths and interests. The needs of each individual are constantly assessed and a tailored program is implemented to address those individual needs. We pride ourselves in preparing our students well for the future.
