Funds in Court (FIC) is a self-funded division of the Supreme Court of Victoria, managing funds paid into Court, primarily for people under a legal disability (beneficiaries). All funds are held, invested and administered by the Associate Judge of the Court who is the Senior Master. FIC provides support and services for over 6,000 beneficiaries.

The Beneficiary Services Section of FIC provides advice and support services to the Senior Master, the Judicial Registrar and Office staff concerning the administration of funds for beneficiaries. Our client base is diverse in terms both of background and disability. FIC is seeking an individual with experience in the disability, financial and mental health sector. Experience working in a collaborative environment is essential as is the ability to adapt to a changing environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate and attendance at meetings with Funds in Court beneficiaries in a variety of settings throughout Australia
  • Provide authoritative reports with considered recommendations to assist with decision making in relation to the effective use of beneficiary funds to meet their ongoing needs; with specific focus on those beneficiaries who are victims of crime, to facilitate requests to access their funds in Court
  • Manage a caseload of Victims of Crime beneficiaries and related duties with sensitivity and empathy
  • Be accessible and responsive to the beneficiaries and their ever-changing needs
  • Investigate and assist in the management of situations requiring crisis care and counselling and make recommendations regarding financial and policy implications where appropriate
  • Contribute to overall team performance and team ethos by demonstrating responsiveness, accountability, integrity, respect and leadership, and to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace

About you:

  • Possess a positive, can-do attitude with strong attention to detail
  • Knowledge of disability services, including DHHS, NDIS, Centrelink, OPA, VCAT and third-party insurers
  • Broad experience working in the disability sector and/or trustee industry
  • Ability to build strong and trusted relationships with beneficiaries and/or their families
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
  • High level organisational skills with the ability to prioritise work requirements and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude towards people with a disability, including with a mental illness, and the families, friends and carers that support them
  • Familiarity with the National Standards for Disability Services and the Victorian Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities, and how they impact on promoting choice and control for people with a disability
