The Position

Title:  Clinical Nurse Consultant, HDU, Medical Ward

Department:  Medical Ward

Classification:   RN Grade 4 - ZJ4

Hours per fortnight: 76

Status: Permanent full time


Applications are sought for an exciting workforce development role with the High Dependency Unit. This position will work closely with the NUM of Medical & HDU ward to develop a sustainable workforce plan that supports ongoing recruitment, retention and structured skills development for staff working in each area. The successful applicant will be a senior clinician with a minimum 5-years’ experience in a related field. They will demonstrate a high level of professionalism in their approach and the ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of people. Project experience would be an advantage and the ability to successfully manage complex programs in a dynamic and ever changing environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Identifying current and future skills requirements
  • Undertaking a skills gap analysis and developing strategies to address gaps
  • Developing an ongoing training program for Medical -HDU ward staff targeting core competencies required by all staff to safely manage high acuity patients
  • Developing formal recruitment and retention strategies
  • Identifying opportunities for structured staff rotations through ED and Medical - HDU ward

Our team requires someone who has:

  • Qualifications and experience in Emergency/ High Dependency Nursing or equivalent
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills
  • A highly collaborative approach and the ability to effectively influence clinical teams
  • Demonstrated knowledge of workforce issues
  • Sound leadership abilities

This position requires completion of a satisfactory National Police Check and (where relevant) provision of a Working With Children Check and check on the Disability Worker Exclusion Scheme prior to appointment.  In addition, this position requires evidence of vaccination status for COVID-19.
