Austin Health is the major provider of tertiary health services, health professional education and research across 3 campuses in the northeast of Melbourne and state-wide. Austin Health is world-renowned for its research and specialist work in cancer, liver transplantation, spinal cord injuries, neurology, endocrinology, mental health and rehabilitation.

An exciting full time fixed term opportunity currently exists for an enthusiastic Advanced Trainee in Clinical Genetics to join our Clinical Genetics department in 2021.

This position is for a clinician with an interest in clinical genetics to work with a multidisciplinary team based predominantly in the Clinical Genetics Service at Austin Health. There will be opportunity to be involved with a variety of sites/clinics, including adult and paediatric general genetics, cardiac, renal, prenatal, and neurogenetics as well as familial cancer clinics.  The successful applicant will have the opportunity to undertake a research project, and to develop skills in next generation sequencing interpretation, through links with VCGS and/or other collaborations.  This position would also be supported through the Austin Health and Victorian Clinical Genetics Services partnership. This partnership provides a broader range of clinical work, peer support and educational opportunities for trainees to enhance their clinical practice and training.

Details of Department

Genetics in the North East (GeNE) provides paediatric, adult and prenatal genetic services. Specialist clinics include cardiac, renal, neurogenetic, familial cancer and prenatal clinics. Clinics are held at Austin Hospital, Eastern Health, Northern Hospital, Mercy Hospital for Women and familial cancer services are also provided at three regional sites Albury/Wodonga, Shepparton and Ballarat. VCGS and the Austin Health clinical genetics service (GeNE) have formalised a partnership to support a pathway for Clinical Genetics advanced trainees at both organisations.

To provide supervised consultation for outpatients at Austin Health, Mercy, Northern Health and outreach clinics

To participate in research activities and projects, including collaboration with researchers from other centres

To work effectively with a multidisciplinary team
