Maryborough District Health Service (MDHS) in Maryborough, Victoria is looking for enthusiastic and motivated midwifery educator for our maternity team.

This is your opportunity to join our team at the beginning of an exciting journey for the health service and our local community. MDHS is proposing to implement a Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) – Case load Model of Care (MoC).

As a midwifery educator at MDHS you will responsible for delivering education across the full scope of midwifery practice to our midwifery team as well as a program of maternity education to our registered nursing workforce. Within this role there also exists the opportunity to combine your passion for education with your love of clinical practice and to support our MGP & RN workforce with modelling quality clinical care and mentorship whilst providing direct clinical care to maternity patients.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

Qualifications / Experience

  1. Current qualification and Registration as a Midwife with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  2. Minimum 5 years post-graduate experience in midwifery is required.
  3. Demonstrated competence in all elements of the midwifery continuum including assessment, planning and evaluation of care.
    1. RANZCOG Fetal Surveillance Education Program (FSEP) Level 3 practitioner.
    2. Experience in a clinical supervision/preceptoring role will be highly regarded.
    3. A Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or equivalent is highly desirable (or willingness to achieve the same).
    4. Simulation and scenario based teaching and experience is desirable.
    5. Demonstrated knowledge of professional standards (code of conduct, standards for practice) and their application to the scope of midwifery practice.
    6. Demonstrated knowledge of The National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards
    7. Demonstrated commitment to the principles of quality evidence-based best practice, through a comprehensive knowledge of research processes and their application to clinical practice. A Post-Graduate qualification in Midwifery highly desirable.
    8. Demonstrated knowledge of Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) and a commitment to evidence based care to provide a supportive and enabling environment for breastfeeding mothers.
    9. Demonstrated commitment to ongoing education and professional development to ensure working within current scope of practice.
    10. Demonstrated ability to create a positive learning and reflective practice environment for learners at all levels

Personal Qualities

  1. Demonstrated knowledge and personal philosophy of working in partnership with a woman and her family to ensure they are empowered and informed to make fully informed decisions and are valued participants in their own care.
  2. Proven ability as an effective clinical leader.
  3. Excellent communication skills; the ability to communicate effectively both in person and in a written format and to motivate and engage with staff in a positive manner to achieve identified objectives.
  4. Demonstrated ability and passion for working in a high functioning team.
  5. Demonstrated knowledge of quality improvement processes and contemporary health principles to drive and embed change.
  6. Demonstrated knowledge of teaching, assessment and clinical supervision principles with experience providing feedback on performance to students/staff.
  7. Experience in developing and implementing systems and processes that guide the novice practitioner to competence and then to expert
  8. Demonstrated capacity of being a reflective practitioner and ability to receive feedback on own performance.
  9. Demonstrated experience using computer programs for education purposes and file and data management e.g. BOS program
  10. A member of Australian College of Midwives (ACM) with a demonstrated commitment to own professional development activities with ACM
