About the role

A unique and exciting opportunity exists for an experienced and highly motivated registered psychiatric nurse to provide effective clinical leadership on the mental health inpatient units at Eastern Health in the role of Clinical Nurse Consultant.  We are seeking applications from passionate and recovery focused senior registered psychiatric nurses for a Clinical Nurse Consultant role, based at South Ward, Peter James Centre in Burwood. The role will work closely with the Mental Health Learning and Teaching team to provide clinical leadership in the implementation specific DHHS initiatives and frameworks.

The role of Clinical Nurse Consultant will work closely with the senior clinical team to lead the addressing of priority issues on the inpatient unit which are related to the vulnerable and high-risk consumers presenting with complex needs, in particular using the Safewards model to reduce restrictive interventions.  This role will facilitate the ongoing development of clinical practice on inpatient settings and provides mentorship as an expert clinician and positive role modelling through their high standards of professional ethics and clinical competence.  This is an outstanding opportunity to work closely with both the inpatient unit teams and the Learning and Teaching team to provide evidence based clinical leadership in the assessment, planning and delivery of recovery focused care of consumers within the inpatient unit.

About you

To be successful in this role you should possess:

  • Registration as a Nurse with current Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), registration certificate
  • Post Graduate qualification in mental health nursing
  • Significant mental health clinical experience in acute inpatient units
  • Highly developed interpersonal and leadership experience
  • A strong commitment to high quality care
  • The ability to work as part of a diverse team
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills

  • Support through the Safewards Community of Practice, Eastern Health
  • Support through the Office of the Chief Mental Health Nurse
  • Networking & educational opportunities through the CMHN Safewards Community of Practice meetings
