About the role:

Are you passionate about social media? Does the sound of working in the fast-paced environment of emergency services get you pumped up? If so, you may have just found the job for you!

As the successful applicant you will work as part of the Social Media Team within the Media, Communications and Engagement Department at Victoria Police.

Your role will be heavily focused on the moderation and development of content across multiple social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube.

The successful person will have relevant digital media skills, be able to operate in a highly reactive team environment and possess well-developed oral and written communication skills.

Furthermore the person will have a strong commitment to meeting customer needs, understand the requirements of our social media audience (the community) along with strong analytical and organisational skills.

The successful applicant will report into the Communications Manager – Social Media, understand the importance of emergency management, and be prepared to work to allocated shifts across the seven-day working week.

Your duties will include:

  • Moderation: responding to comments and queries on all social channels in a timely manner
  • Content creation when required
  • Reporting and evaluation analytics for all social media content
  • Provide advice and support to internal and external stakeholders on social media initiatives that support Victoria Police's strategic direction
  • In conjunction with other areas within Media, Communications and Engagement Department, contribute to coordinated, timely communication responses to a range of issues.
  • Crisis communications: provide social media support in an emergency and/or critical incident.
  • Identify online and digital media communications opportunities
  • Stay current with emerging digital media trends, issues and opportunities and effectively navigate the changing online media landscape.
  • Shift work across the seven-day working week

As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to liaise with people at all levels
  • An understanding of social media and how it can be used by emergency services organisations
  • Demonstrated competencies with Adobe Creative Suite
  • Strong analytical, conceptual/organisational skills
  • The ability to write creatively for various social media platforms
  • Possess video and photography skills
  • Embraces a highly collaborative team in a fast-paced working environment

Bonus if you have:

  • Experience with crisis communications response
  • Video editing skills in Adobe Premiere Pro
  • Experience working with social media monitoring platforms
  • Analytical mindset and are curious by nature

Requirements and relevant information:

Your usual place of work will be within the Social Media team, Media, Communications and Engagement Department, however you may be required to work at any other division within the Department as required. 

  • One (1) full-time fixed term position available to 14 October 2022.
  • Position location is the Victoria Police Centre. 311 Spencer Street, Docklands.
  • The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
  • Shift work is a MANDATORY part of this role.
