About the Team

Our team supports the Department of Transport to deliver on the Government's transport agenda, to get people home sooner and safer and to efficiently move more goods in Victoria's thriving economy. We do this through clear communications, genuine engagement and marketing campaigns that resonate with people because they are focused on delivering better outcomes for people, wherever they live. 

The Communications and Engagement Lead is accountable for developing and delivering Community and Stakeholder Communications and Engagement plans for projects and initiatives in Metropolitan and Suburban areas.

About the Opportunity

  • Identify opportunities for DoT and lead the development and delivery of stakeholder communications and engagement activities, programs and strategies in those areas.
  • Develop effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to lead the direction of engagement activities
  • Lead the development and delivery of strategic engagement plans for key projects in the delivery of the DoT engagement strategy for initiatives, regions and projects.
  • Communications and Engagement plans are supported by well written and appropriately selected collateral, such as letters, postcards and other public materials support engagement activities.
  • Provide advice to internal stakeholders, including central DoT staff to guide external engagement, build positive relationships and develop innovative solutions to complex problems.
  • Lead research and analysis activities to understand and respond to critical issues across strategic areas - transport safety, behavioural change, and suburban growth.
  • Work collaboratively across the Strategic Communications and Engagement division for coordinated, consistent and collegiate approaches particularly working with marketing
  • Prepare reports and briefs

About You

  • Hold a qualification in communications, public relations or have extensive experience in a communications and stakeholder engagement role or related
  • Possess skills in developing and implementing significant community and industry consultation and stakeholder engagement programs
  • Negotiation and influencing skills to develop and maintain partnerships
  • Have strong verbal and written communication skills and be able to coach others
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and manage issues that could impact on organisational reputation
  • Have project management skills with an ability to lead complex communication and engagement projects.
  • Be able to provide advice to business areas and senior management on strategic engagement opportunities to support activities, projects and programs
