The North East Link Project will deliver the missing link in Melbourne's road network that will finally complete the Metropolitan Ring Road by connecting the M80 to the Eastern Freeway to improve outer north-south links for road freight movement and improve travel time and reliability.

About North East Link

The North East Link Project (NELP) is a $15.8bn infrastructure project that will connect the missing link in Melbourne's freeway network, while increasing the capacity of the Eastern Freeway. It will slash travel times, get trucks off local roads and link key growth areas in the north and south-east whilst creating thousands of new jobs.  NELP is the Victorian Government entity responsible for the delivery of this project.

About the Opportunity

As NELP's Community Design Specialist you will report directly to the Communications & Stakeholder Relations Lead, Tunnelling Package within NELP's Communications & Stakeholder Relations team.

You will play a pivotal role in developing community engagement processes and taking ownership of appropriate responses to the community and relevant consultation strategies. You will be the key coordinator across NELP when engaging various internal and external stakeholders to ensure consistency and uniformity to support the release of the project design.

As the key contact between various internal functions including Engineering, Land, Planning & Environment and multiple communications disciplines you will utilise your engagement expertise to ensure a consistent and engaging narrative is presented to community stakeholders.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to strategically plan and deliver a key engagement piece for Victoria's largest road project to date.

Travel and time spent at a future site office (Bulleen, Heidelberg or Watsonia) will be requirement of this position. The successful incumbent to this position will be required to attend community engagement events during evenings and weekends.

About You

As an experienced Community Design Specialist, you will bring a wealth of experience from various major projects where construction meets the community. This could be from large infrastructure, precincts or other large projects where quality community engagement outcomes are essential.

Other key experiences you will bring include:

  • Extensive experience in the development, delivery and management of high-profile government communication/stakeholder relations strategies within complex, high-pressure project delivery environments.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the challenges, issues and risks associated with delivering major infrastructure projects, managing and negotiating the interface between internal teams, client teams and contractors, government, businesses and residents.
  • A strong understanding of urban design and the planning approvals process in the context of major infrastructure projects is highly desirable.
