Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon (Thoracic Surgery)

Applications for suitably qualified medical practitioners for the position Cardiothoracic Surgeon specialising exclusively in Thoracic Surgery at Monash Medical Centre, Clayton.  Applicants must hold Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and the position is offered on a fixed term/19 hours per week basis.

Brief Description

It is expected that Thoracic Surgery at Monash Medical Centre, Clayton will expand in volume and scope following the commissioning of the Victorian Heart Hospital in early 2023. Existing operating theatre sessions, outpatient clinics and multi-disciplinary team meetings will continue as will the excellent relationship between our Department and Monash Lung and Sleep. The position will provide outstanding opportunities for clinical leadership, undergraduate/postgraduate teaching/training and clinical research.     

About the Department

In early 2023, the Monash Health Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery will be geographically split between the Victorian Heart Hospital on the Monash University Clayton campus (Cardiac Surgery) and Monash Medical Centre, Clayton (Thoracic Surgery) and therefore we wish to appoint a Cardiothoracic Surgeon practicing exclusively in Thoracic Surgery to staff our expanding Thoracic Surgery Service.

We are now looking to appoint to a range of medical positions including:

  • A Fractional (part time) Medical Specialist in Thoracic Surgery

What you need:

Medical Specialist/Consultant (Senior Medical staff):

  • A medical qualification from a registered tertiary institution and Registration with the Medical Board of Australia (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency) with a current annual practicing certificate is essential.

  • Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons including maintenance of CPD and good standing as required by AHPRA for the maintenance of Specialist Registration.

  • All applicants must be awarded Scope of Clinical Practice by the Monash Health Credentialing committee.  Information presented for application will be presented to the committee during the selection process, and all appointments are subject to maintenance of SoP within the clinical services capability framework in the facilities in which clinical work is to be undertaken.  This process must be completed prior to offer of employment.

  • Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and if applicable registration or membership with the appropriate registration authority or association. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties.
