About Oncology Unit

The Oncology Unit at Monash Health is one of the largest in Australia. It comprises inpatient, outpatient and ambulatory cancer treatment services as well as an extensive clinical trials unit to provide comprehensive and multi disciplinary cancer care in all tumour streams. In keeping with Monash Health's iCARE values, the unit acts with integrity, compassion, accountability, respect and excellence to promote best practice and management for the benefit of all patients. Key areas include the provision of curative to palliative therapy for patients with all solid organ malignancies. Services are provided at Moorabbin Hospital (inpatient, outpatient and chemotherapy day unit), Dandenong Hospital (inpatient consult, outpatient and chemotherapy day unit), Berwick - Specialty Consulting clinics as well as Monash Medical Centre Clayton (Clinical Trials Centre) at the Monash Health Translational Research Precinct - MHTP. About the Role

  • To be a key clinician of the Monash Health Medical Oncology Unit, focused across the various campus and having a major role at the time of establishment of an Oncology bed card at Monash Medical Centre, Clayton site, consistent with the Monash Health values, support best patient care and to further the development of the Medical Oncology at Monash Health into a world-leading academic unit.

  • To provide clinical expertise and leadership in the management of patients with solid organ tumours in one or more subspecialty tumour areas managed at Monash Health and in particular, patients being considered or enrolled on an oncology clinical trial.

  • To provide clinical expertise in clinical and translational research in Medical Oncology at Monash Health.

  • To ensure timely and appropriate communication with other relevant clinicians and health care providers to facilitate best management of Monash Health patients

  • To be actively involved in Monash Health's teaching, clinical governance and quality and safety programs

  • To support the strategic priorities and values of Monash Health.

What you need:


  • Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)

  • Appropriate health professional tertiary qualifications

  • Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Physicians

  • Demonstrable relevant knowledge and experience in the management of oncological disease

  • Experience in oncology clinical trials

  • Meets Monash Health requirements for credentialing and scope of practice in oncology

  • Experience in teaching and involvement in research

  • Experience in writing project applications and supervising project plans

Highly Desirable

  • Higher Degree in relevant oncological field(s). Experience and subspecialization in Neurooncology

Technical skills/knowledge/experience:

  • Clinical knowledge and experience in diagnosis and management of solid organ malignancies\Growing autonomy and skill-sets of specialist expertise

  • Evidence of an emerging track record of publications and presentations

  • The ability to work under pressure and to prioritise tasks to meet deadlines

  • High levels of initiative and flexibility

  • Well-developed interpersonal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of a team

  • Ability to work efficiently, meet project timelines, and excellent organisational skills

  • Ability to teach, support and mentor junior staff members
