About the facility


Barwon Health’s newly formed Public Health Unit servicing the Barwon South West region is initially focussing on COVID-19 preparedness, response and facilitation, with a particular focus initially on the COVID 19 Vaccination program. It will then later focus on other key areas of communicable and chronic diseases to improve public health to the entire region.


About the role


As the Contact Tracing Officer you are responsible for contacting people who have tested positive to COVID 19 (a case) and close contacts of the case or exposure sites. The role forms part of the public Emergency response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and may move to other core public health functions relevant to other conditions affecting the community. The Contact tracer conducts interviews in order to establish acquisition links, identify high risk and sensitive settings and provide public health recommendations and directions.  The purpose is to ensure efficient and effective gathering of information and refer to a clinical are pathway.


To be successful in this role you will have the following qualifications and experience:



  • Formal professionally recognised qualifications in Nursing, Allied Health, Social Work or Psychology, and APRHA registration where required

  • Formal professionally recognised qualifications in acceptable for membership with the AASW

  • A demonstrated high level of clinical skills in the assessment and data collection.

  • Professional and empathetic approach to cases and contacts who may become distressed on receiving the call.

  • Flexibility to work a rotating roster 7 days a week, available morning and afternoon shifts. Flexibility to work at short notice and to do on call rostering.

  • Working in a dynamic fast paced team environment

  • Professional and empathetic approach to cases and contacts who may become distressed on receiving the call.


This role will be located at Rotary House on Ryrie Street in Geelong.
