The Generalist Health Worker – Specimen Collection and the Generalist Health Worker – Administration Support are members of the health care team supporting Victorian’s health response to COVID 19

Support for COVID-19 Testing Clinic: Generalist Health Worker

  • Specimen Collection (oropharyngeal and bilateral nasal swabbing)

Castlemaine Health and CHIRP Community Health work proudly within our local community to provide a wide range of services and programs aimed at promoting health and preventing illness. 

The Roles

The Generalist Health Worker – Specimen Collection and the Generalist Health Worker – Administration Support are members of the health care team supporting Victorian's health response to COVID 19 and may undertake any of the following activities (dependent on the level of achieved educational preparation and assessed competence of the individual):

  1. Collecting specimens for COVID 19 (Specimen Collection only)
  2. Completing non-invasive temperature checks and documenting findings and contact details
  3. Taking bookings, entering data and coordinating patient flow

The COVID-19 Testing Clinic currently operates Tuesdays and Fridays between 10.00am-12.00pm, with additional days scheduled as required to meet surge demand.

Eligibility – Specimen Collection

The following professional groups can be expected to safely and effectively undertake swabbing for COVID-19 testing:

Ambulance Attendant (Diploma)*

Medical students (year 3, 4, or 5)

Dentists

Registered nurses

Dental/Oral health therapists

Enrolled nurses

Dieticians*

Occupational therapists* 

Physiotherapists

Paramedics

Physiotherapy students (final year)

Paramedic students (year 3)

Speech pathologists

Paramedicine graduates

Speech pathology students (final year)

Pathology Collector (Certificate trained)

Medical practitioners

Patient Transport Officer (Certificate trained) *

 * These professional groups can only undertake oropharyngeal and bilateral nasal swabs, not nasopharyngeal.

Skills and Experience – Administration Support

  1. Previous experience in phone and office-based administration and/or customer service roles
  2. Prior experience working with people from diverse backgrounds, personalities and varying needs
  3. Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, including a collaborative and cooperative approach to building relationships with others
  4. Demonstrated commitment to the principles of the Social Model of Health
  5. Sound computer literacy, including experience with the Microsoft Office suite

Conditions

For Specimen Collection, successful applicants will be employed according to the terms and conditions of the Award or Enterprise Agreement applicable to their discipline.

Successful applicants must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
