Creating Safety Nurse - Mental Health


  • Opportunity for an experienced clinician to support the Multidisciplinary team in working with complex clients

  • Based at Adult Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit - Sunshine Hospital

  • Full Time, Ongoing, 80 hours per fortnight including ADO

The Adult Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit (AMHRU) is a 24 hour - 26 bed secure extended care unit based at Sunshine Hospital. We provide recovery focused treatment and rehabilitation of consumers who experience a treatment resistive and /or persistent psychotic illness.

The team is looking for an experienced, enthusiastic, and motivated Registered Psychiatric Nurse, Grade 4 to join our team and provide leadership & support to develop management plans, assist in providing evidence based practice and coordinate care with other stakeholders.

Your new role:

  • Provide care to adults between the ages of 16-64, AMHRU residents require intensive recovery orientated treatment and interventions that are unable to be provided by less intensive community services. 

  • Support processes, education, mentoring and coordinating care for consumers who present with the need for higher levels of observation, management, engagement and treatment.

  • Take a lead with supporting the safety aspects of consumer care including gender & cultural safety, trauma informed care, the reduction of restrictive interventions and the implementation of SAFEWARDS.

About you:

  • Experienced in working with people with a serious mental illness and psychiatric disability

  • Recent inpatient/public mental health nursing  experience

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with consumers, families/carers, colleagues and other service providers

  • Ability to coordinate planning meetings, work with other stakeholders

  • Ability to provide leadership and support to the AMHRU workforce in supporting clients with complex and challenging needs

  • An understanding of the policies and procedures associated with the Mental Health Act and other relevant legislation
