About us

The Hume region delivers a range of services through Justice Service Centres at Wangaratta, Shepparton, Seymour and Wodonga and at outreach locations in Myrtleford, Benalla, Cobram, Mansfield and Corryong. 

The region works in partnership with the Crime Prevention and Countering Violent Extremism (CP&CVE) Unit and other government and non-government agencies to help build the capacity of local communities to implement effective responses to local crime issues and promote safe, inclusive and confident communities.

About the role

The Crime Prevention Officer role reports to General Manager, Community Services in the Hume region and has a specific focus on supporting the local delivery of crime prevention portfolio activities. The role has a close relationship with the central CP&CVE Unit which is responsible for the whole of government crime prevention agenda.  In this role you will:

  • act as a conduit between the Corrections and Justice Services group and the CP&CVE Unit providing timely intelligence reporting to the regional executive and the CP&CVE Unit on opportunities and challenges that impact on the delivery of CP&CVE initiatives in the region
  • manage a portfolio of funding agreements with grant recipients in the region and apply sound judgement and experience to support funded projects
  • maintain a detailed understanding of the requirements of the common funding agreement including reporting requirements, budget management, compliance and the need and process for requesting variations.

Please note, this role is Part Time (FTE 0.6), Fixed Term until 30 June 2022.

About you

As our ideal candidate, you will have:

  • an understanding of crime prevention theory and practice (highly regarded)
  • the ability to establish relationships with stakeholders, develop effective stakeholder-oriented responses, and assess, develop and negotiate innovative solutions to complex issues
  • demonstrated experience in grant administration and/or project management to support the delivery of high-quality services to the community and implement the policy objectives of government.

A tertiary qualification (or equivalent experience) in community development or a relevant social policy area are desirable.
