ABOUT THE ROLE:

The Werribee Mercy Hospital Emergency Department is expanding its Emergency Leadership team to reflect the health needs of the growing community we serve.

We are seeking motivated, innovative, and committed Emergency Physicians for the following roles:

  • Deputy Director Emergency Medicine (Clinical Operations)
  • Deputy Director Emergency Medicine (Clinical Standards and Safety)
  • Deputy Director Emergency Medicine (Paediatric Care)

Whilst previous experience in formal leadership roles is beneficial, these roles would also suit those Emergency Physicians ready to use their skills and enthusiasm in a leadership position for the first time.

As a major public hospital servicing the fastest growing local government area in Australia, we have an exciting growth strategy which will lay the foundations for future growth.  We are currently designing a new two level Emergency Department due for completion in 2027, which will see us expand from our current treatment spaces from 33 to 67 points of care including four resuscitation bays and 36 emergency care cubicles. There will be a dedicated Paediatric Area as well as an expanded area for rapid assessments and fast track.

The Werribee Mercy Hospital, Emergency Department and Short Stay Unit provides care to over 50,000 patients annually.  Our community is culturally diverse as one in two families, include an individual who was born overseas.

Successful candidates for each of these roles will be support the Director of Emergency Medicine in the operational and strategic management of the Emergency Department Short Stay Unit including clinical service, innovation and continuous improvement, optimisation of patient flow, teaching and research. Ideally, you will have 50% clinical support time and 50% clinical time with the opportunity to work clinically in both the emergency department and short stay unit.

ABOUT YOU:

  • FACEM or equivalent qualification as an Emergency Medicine specialist.
  • Appointees must be registered or registrable with AHPRA
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience as a clinical leader with an interest in driving innovation and patient centred care
  • Ability to provide strategic focus and direction and foster a culture of quality and service improvement
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team
