Our Journey


The Victorian Heart Hospital will be Australia’s first dedicated heart hospital and is nearing its final stages of construction. It will include a full range of ambulatory and inpatient cardiac care, including cardiac theatres, cardiac catheterisation laboratories and ambulatory services such as cardiac CT, echocardiography and specialist consultation. It will also feature a unique, patient centred model of care.  The Victorian Heart Hospital will also play a key role in advancing research and teaching and will be home to the Victorian Heart Institute, a brand new, health and medical research organisation at Monash University.

This is an exciting opportunity for an outstanding Grade 1 or Grade 3 Medical Physicist to join our Imaging team working across all Imaging sites within Monash Health including the new Victorian Heart Hospital.


A day in the life


We guarantee that no two days will be the same.


In this important role, you will work supporting the Imaging team at Monash Health in all Medical Physics tasks. The physicist will play an active role in establishing, implementing and maintaining the imaging quality assurance program.


Working under minimal supervision from the Lead Medical Physicist and Radiation Safety Officer and as part of a small, motivated team of diagnostic imaging medical physicists, the roles will be involved in all aspects of providing a clinical imaging medical physics service.


Other key responsibilities include:



  • Provide leadership in achieving and upholding Monash Health’s vision, purpose and values.

  • Fostering a culture that encourages effective working relationships and commitment to a high standard of service.

  • In conjunction with the Chief Technologists, Implement and maintain a quality assurance program in the department.

  • Maintain currency with international best practice recommendations in Diagnostic Imaging, including Nuclear Medicine, PET and Radiation safety.

  • Work with the clinical staff team to support clinical applications by optimising the equipment, image processing, quantitative analysis, patient dosimetry and education.

  • Contribute to multidisciplinary research projects.

  • Support the Radiation Safety Officer in maintaining radiation safety standards according to relevant regulations, legislation, codes and international recommendations.

  • Support the Subspecialty Heads and Chief Technologists in maintaining the safest, most efficient practice regarding dosimetry & radiation safety for both diagnostic and therapeutic Nuclear Medicine and PET.

What you bring


Working closely with the Lead Medical Physicist you will bring the following demonstrated skills, experience and knowledge (italics indicate desirable):



  • Experience in managing and participating in Quality Improvement programmes

  • Experience in patient and staff dosimetry

  • Experience in shielding calculations

  • Scientific programming and data analysis experience

  • Demonstrated research experience in Diagnostic Imagining Medical Physics or Radiation Safety

  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills

  • Knowledge of a wide range of Nuclear Medicine and PET equipment and technology

  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team

  • Demonstrated research experience

  • Capacity to be an influential member of a team and assist colleagues in the achievement of organisational objectives.

  • An ACPSEM accredited Medical Physics MSc or PhD, or equivalent.

  • Registration on the Australasian College of Physical Scientists and Engineers in Medicine (ACPSEM) register of Qualified Medical Physics Specialists

  • Hold or be eligible to hold a Victorian Radiation Use Licence

  • ACPSEM Certification in Diagnostic Imaging Medical Physics (Nuclear Medicine)

  • Hold or be eligible to have Victorian regulatory approval for radiation dose estimates for research trials
