About the Role

This Diagnostic Imaging Medical Physicist position will work under general supervision of the Medical Physicist / Radiation Safety Officer. This role will actively participate in tasks to enable Monash Health to be compliant with the Radiation Safety Act, relevant legislation, Australian standards and codes of practice and guidance documents relating to Radiation Safety.

Key tasks include;

  • Under direction of the senior medical physicist actively participate in routine quality assurance and acceptance and compliance testing of equipment.
  • Under general supervision undertake dose estimates for all modalities.
  • Under general supervision undertake shielding calculations for all modalities.
  • Attend and participate in departmental meetings as directed.
  • Attend in-house tutorials provided to the Radiology registrars as directed.
  • Participate in departmental research projects as directed.
  • Present radiation safety talks or information sessions on a radiation safety/physics topic as directed.

A current Driver’s Licence and access to a reliable vehicle are also required as you will be working across a number of Monash Health sites

About You:

  • Bachelor’s Degree majoring in Physics
  • Eligible to enrol in the Australasian College of Physical Scientists and Engineers in Medicine (ACPSEM) Radiology or Nuclear Medicine Physics Training Education and Assessment Program (TEAP) for Diagnostic Imaging Medical Physics
  • Eligibility to obtain a Victorian Radiation Use Licence
  • A sound understanding of Medical Imaging technology and Radiation Safety principles and practice as applied to medicine.
  • Understanding Australian and International Standards and Codes of Practice relevant to radiation safety in medicine.
  • Self-motivated with excellent communication skills.
  • Experience in undertaking patient and staff dosimetry estimations.
  • Experience in undertaking shielding calculations.
  • Experience in use of radiation dosimetry equipment.
  • Experience in participation in routine quality assurance, compliance and acceptance testing of diagnostic imaging equipment.
