About Monash Health Nephrology

The Monash Health Department of Nephrology is one of the largest nephrology departments in Australia. We deliver nephrology services throughout the south-eastern metropolitan region of Melbourne, extending into Gippsland, across nine sites in five locations. The department, in partnership with Kidney Health Australia, operates the Victorian Big Red Kidney Bus, a mobile dialysis unit that travels to holiday spots around Victoria. The current staff complement is over 350 and we care for over 2,300 patients, and also conduct extensive clinical and laboratory research.

With the ongoing expansion of services across Nephrology, we now have a newly created opportunity for a motivated technician to join us in a permanent, full time role.

About the Role

The Dialysis Service Technician is an integral member of the Monash Health Dialysis Technical Services (DTS) Department and forms part of a multidisciplinary team that is the Department of Nephrology.

Our DTS Team ensures the ongoing provision of dialysis services to over 700 home and hospital-based patients, located across southeast Melbourne, Greater Melbourne and regional Victoria.  We promote the installation, maintenance and safety performance of dialysis equipment at all Monash Health sites. This includes the provision of planned and unplanned repairs/maintenance and calibration of all Monash Health dialysis equipment located throughout Victoria.

The role includes rostered on call duties to support the Nephrology Department which operates 24 hours a day, every day.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, commission, install, service, repair and maintain equipment in all locations, including electrical safety testing, in accordance with  manufacturer’s specifications and all relevant Standards


• Conduct emergency repairs and rectify faults on tight timeframes so that patients and clinical staff experience minimal interruptions to dialysis service delivery


• Remove, relocation and decommissioning of existing equipment


• Control the quality of all dialysis water treatment units for effective dialysis service delivery via sampling and testing, and to ensure compliance with all relevant Standards


• Educate dialysis staff and patients on dialysis equipment processes, theory and usage


• Share the on-call responsibilities with colleagues and be able to perform unscheduled work when on-call

You can be flexible with your working hours when needed, to compliment our operating hours and you are willing to travel throughout Victoria  for planned and unplanned work.

You also will have: 

• Bachelor Degree in Science or Applied Science or relevant extensive experience in dialysis technical services


• Eligibility for full membership of an appropriate professional association


• Current driver’s licence including the ability to drive a large commercial van
