The Corporate Finance team has rare opportunity for someone to join as the Director of Corporate Finance. This opportunity allows you to play a key leadership role (Deputy CFO) providing high-quality management advice to the CFO, develop and maintain key relationships with relevant Executives across the department and relevant Agencies. You will provide leadership and support to a high performing team.

The Department of Treasury and Finance provides economic, financial and resource management advice to help the Victorian Government deliver its policies. We strive for excellence in financial and economic management to improve the lives of all Victorians.  

Corporate Finance provides financial services including statutory and external reporting, management reporting, budgeting, asset management, accounts payable and receivable as well as electronic procurement support.  The Group also supports the Treasurer in the management and administration of the Community Support Fund (CSF) programs and also provides financial services to support the VicFleet trust and number of other departmental trusts.

 Led by the Chief Financial Officer, Corporate Finance comprises three core teams:

  • Budget Management and Reporting (includes the Community Support Fund and Vic Fleet trusts)
  • Financial Reporting and Compliance for DTF and a number of client agencies
  • Financial Operations (providing shared transactional services to DTF, DPC and agencies)

About the role

The Corporate Finance team has rare opportunity for someone to join as the Director of Corporate Finance. This opportunity allows you to play a key leadership role (Deputy CFO) providing high-quality management advice to the CFO, develop and maintain key relationships with relevant Executives across the department and relevant Agencies. You will provide leadership and support to a high performing team.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide leadership, management and development opportunities for a team of approximately 25+ staff.
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory, Departmental and professional standards, including the Financial Management Act and Directions of the Minister, Australian Accounting Standards, all tax legislation and policies and procedures of the Central Agencies.
  • Manage the provision of high-quality financial management advice to the CFO, the Secretary and leadership team within DTF, the Audit Committee and Board of DTF.
  • Ensure the timely and accurate reporting of all financial and non-financial data to external and internal parties including Minister's Offices, the Secretary, Senior Executive Group and central agency executives.
  • Manage the relationship with clients of the DTF financial services team, including DPC and the ongoing maintenance and negotiation of the Service Level Agreement (SLA).

About you 

To be considered for this role, you must demonstrate the following:

  • Strong accounting knowledge and understanding of financial management at an operational level.
  • Highly developed conceptual and analytical skills, and experience in providing authoritative, sensitive and concise strategic and/or policy advice of the highest level.
  • Strong communication, relationship management and negotiation skills, demonstrated at a senior level.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and experience in managing a large team and driving capability improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability for continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of the knowledge of Government processes and the requirements of an Executive Officer in Government.
  • A proven ability to work in a sustained way and deliver results under pressure.
