About the Division

The Ministerial and Government Services Branch provides support services for the Department and Ministers to meet legislative, parliamentary and accountability obligations.

This Branch forms part of the wider People and Business Services Division to provide business enabling people and corporate services functions, to drive a high-performance culture and to support integrated operations.

 

About the Opportunity

The Director, Ministerial and Government Services is one of six direct reports to the Executive Director, Governance and Portfolio Services. The Director is responsible for the provision of support services for the Department and Ministers to meet legislative, parliamentary and accountability obligations, including cabinet submissions and possible parliamentary questions.

The Director will also be responsible for the provision of advice to DoT business areas and ensure compliance with relevant guidelines in the discharge of board and statutory appointments.

The Director, Ministerial and Government Services leads the development of high calibre teams across the functions of:

  • Ministerial Services Coordination (including Department Liaison Officers)
  • Parliamentary Services
  • Cabinet and Appointments
  • Briefings and Correspondence

 

Skills we're looking for

  • Advice: Extensive experience providing high level strategic, tactical or operational advice on a range of matters to senior stakeholders.
  • Leadership and management: Extensive leadership and management experience including the management of staff through complex and challenging environments and ability to foster a high performing and collaborative culture.
  • Strategic planning: Experience as a key contributor in the development of organisation strategy and business planning processes.
  • Resource management: Experience managing the development and management of workforce, budgets, finances, and expenditure.
  • Stakeholder management: Demonstrated track record of developing constructive relationships with senior internal and external stakeholders, resolving conflict and managing sensitivities within constrained timeframes, and ability to effectively negotiate to achieve outcomes.
  • Conceptual and analytical ability: Ability to effectively identify and assess emerging issues, consider options and devise effective action plans and innovative solutions to complex challenges.
  • Professional/specialist: Demonstrated achievement providing pivotal recommendations to senior management that are relied upon in wider organisation decision making. Astute political acumen and environmental scanning and extensive knowledge of government processes.
  • Communications: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to lead cross-portfolio teams and work with staff at different levels across organisations to deliver concise, authoritative, high quality written material.
  • Change management: Experience as a key contributor to strategic change and reform initiatives including multiple organisational change and large scale transformation strategies, initiatives and programs.

 

Desirable

  • A relevant tertiary degree would be well regarded.
  • Previous stakeholder management experience with Ministers and Ministers' Offices
