Clinical Director of Emergency

Emergency Department

Permanent Full / Part Time

We are seeking an experienced senior medical officer/specialist to lead our dedicated team of medical officers in WHCG's Emergency Department. Our vision is to ensure our ED provides the quality of care that our community have a right to expect from an Australian regional ED in 2021. This role includes both clinical and administrative responsibilities.  Our Emergency Department has 10 treatment spaces, including a resuscitation room and a Fast-Track area, and treats approx. 15,000 patients annually. The medical team is supported by a highly skilled emergency nursing team, including 2 nurse practitioners.  It is a training site for ACRRM and ACEM.

Key Selection Criteria


  • Full general/specialist registration with AHPRA

  • Minimum of 5 years’ ED experience – at least 1 in Australia

  • Demonstrated ability to foster collaboration within the ED team and with other services/stakeholders

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, including the use of data and examples to communicate information

  • Demonstrated ability to use resources in an efficient and effective manner

  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability, including investigation of complex problems and generation and testing of alternative solutions

  • Experience in working to meet challenging standards/goals for self and/or others, including setting realistic interim goals and assessing impact of potential interventions

  • Demonstrated willingness to adapt based on new information or changed risk environment


  • Experience in a rural/regional ED

  • Knowledge and understanding of the health care industry, including national and international trends in the provision of ED services

  • Experience in teaching

  • Experience in the implementation of change management within a complex clinical department, including strategic planning skills
