Yoorrook Justice Commission is the first formal truth-telling process into injustices experienced by First Peoples in Victoria. Yoorrook has been established as an independent Royal Commission under the Inquiries Act 2014. See here the Letters Patent that set out Yoorrook's mandate.

As a key member of the executive team, the Director, Operations will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to contribute to a positive, collaborative, well resourced, innovative and culturally safe workplace.

Reporting to the CEO and leading a team of portfolio managers, this role is responsible for the leadership of  Yoorrook operations, including finance management, records management, human resources, procurement, risk, governance and business planning.

The role will also work across the organisation to ensure effective and strategic project management and coordination on issues including evidence gathering and submissions, report delivery and planning for the end of Yoorrook.

This is a fixed-term role until 30 June 2025.

This critical leadership role at Yoorrook will suit someone with significant strategic leadership and project management experience to support the work of Yoorrook in a dynamic and time-sensitive environment.

You will be a systems thinker who can engage strategically with complexity and support others in the operationalisation of projects and Yoorrook operations, preferably with experience in some or all of the areas of responsibility.

You will have a proven track record of establishing and sustaining constructive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders to ensure effective engagement and consultation, in the delivery of operations and projects including by communicating sensitively and appropriately with First Peoples and people from a range of backgrounds.

Ideally you will have experience working with First Peoples' led organisations and/or communities specifically with an understanding of trauma informed approaches and cultural safety.

Applications close on 26 September 2023 and should include:

  • A resume; and
  • A cover letter which addresses the key selection criteria as found in the position description (within two pages).

For a confidential conversation about the role, please contact Lisa Tricarico on 0412 597 791.

We welcome applicants from a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, people who identify as LGBTIQA+ and people with disability.

Applicants are encouraged to discuss flexible arrangements during the recruitment process. The nature and scope of flexible options at Yoorrook varies depending on the position.

Preferred candidates may be required to complete a Pre-employment Declaration and Consent Form. Employment of successful candidates may be subject to a National Police Check.

This position is only open to applicants with relevant rights to work in Australia. As an authorised provider, Yoorrook is required to comply with the State Government's COVID-19 Vaccination policy, which strongly recommends all employees be fully vaccinated.
