What You Will Be Doing

Peninsula Health has a fixed term full or part time position for a Disability Liaison Officer (DLO) who will support people with disability to co-ordinate and access health care services (including COVID-19 testing and vaccination facilities). This position is required to work within a DLO team and reports operationally to the Disability Liaison Officer (DLO) Team Leader based within Peninsula Health.
People with a disability have reported experiencing difficulty accessing health care facilities and COVID-19 assessment services due to fear, uncertainty and issues with accessibility. The Position of a DLO seeks to address those concerns and ensure that people with disability are able to access the treatment and support they need.

The primary function of the DLO is to:
•help people with disability, their families and carers access testing for COVID-19 and vaccination.
•support people with disability, their families and carers to connect with other health services
•undertake outreach where there is evidence that people with disability are not accessing testing services or other hospitals services because of fear of exposure and infection, or uncertainty about how the service will operate
•undertake targeted outreach for people with disability who may be less likely to use health services
•Collaborate with, and take direction from the DLO Team Leader.

What You Need

We anticipate you will have:
• A graduate qualification in Allied Health or Nursing
• Strong understanding of how disability can impact a person’s life in the community.
• Ability to anticipate key risks affecting the person living with a disability and respond accordingly.
• Comprehensive knowledge of the range of general and specialist service options available to people with a disability including but not limited to: physical, emotional and mental health, accommodation, legal matters, employment and education.
• Understanding of the National Disability Insurance Scheme
• Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with stakeholders within and external to an organisation.
• Demonstrated competence in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams and the internet
• Demonstrated commitment to continuous and innovative improvement through quality and research activities
• Victorian Driver’s license
• Membership of relevant discipline Australian Association
• Experience working with people with psychosocial disabilities
