About us

The Economic division within the Department of Treasury and Finance provides leadership in policy development, economic and financial advice from a central agency perspective. We support the Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer and Minister for Regulatory Reform and the Cabinet process to generate employment, improve Victorians' living standards, and deliver essential services.

The Division is comprised of 3 core groups, the Economic Policy group, Service Delivery and Reform group and the Revenue group, which provide analysis and advice across of breadth of priority issues. We work in the heart of State Government in a dynamic and collaborative environment with opportunities to undertake stimulating work.

About the role

Working within one of our three groups, as an Economist or Policy Analyst, you will:

  • analyse qualitative and quantitative data sets and provide advice on economic and policy issues for senior management and government
  • conduct research on complex economic, financial and public policy issues
  • deliver briefings that are timely and accurate
  • communicate and influence a range of internal and external stakeholders building and maintaining strong relationships.

About you

As our ideal candidate, you will have:

  • the ability to prepare high quality briefings and advice conveying complex issues persuasively and effectively
  • demonstrated ability to interpret and synthesise information to solve problems
  • experience working within a team to collaborate and support others to achieve common goals
  • experience in using economic frameworks and principles, and/or experience in policy development would be advantageous.

Qualifications in economics, public policy, econometrics, commerce, statistics, or law or a related field are an advantage, but not essential.
